Having been built for use at the 1991 World Student Games, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is a World class sports venue and attracts some of the biggest and best National and International sporting events on offer.
The venue was first used for Ultimate in 2008 when it was the primary venue for the UKU National Indoor Finals (for both Open and Women's club teams). Since then it has been used to host a UKU Open Indoor Qualifier and, in 2009, became the new home of the annual Sheffield Beginners tournament.
Mix & Mingle was previously held at Concord Sports Centre but followed Shef Beginners across the city to Ponds Forge in 2010, where it will remain until at least 2012.
The hall at Ponds Forge has been used for a whole host of International sporting events including Volleyball, Basketball, Futsal, Table Tennis and Bowls, along with numerous other events such as conferences, graduations and parties.
For Ultimate use, the hall is split down the middle by way of a curtain and rebound boards, leaving two large pitches either side. These pitches are close to UKU regulation size and include 6m endzones and a minimum of 1m between the perimeter and any immovable object.
Spectators can watch all the action from the viewing balcony or from behind the safety netting near the pitch entrances on the ground level. Only players and coaches should be standing on the sidelines of the pitches - this is a safety issue, and actually in the UKU Indoor Rules...
The foodetc. cafe bar offers a range of hot and cold meals, drinks and snacks; and is open from 9am until 8pm. This is also a fully licensed bar and has two flat screen TVs for watching the days live sporting action.
If you want to chill out between matches without all the hussle and bussle of the sports hall and balcony areas, why not make use of the Player Lounge?! Located on the ground floor opposite the Pitch 1 entrance, here you will find a space in which to relax in comfort.
